Make no bones about it. The snowflake is hard work! It does reveal a lot about your characters and how they will interact. This is the farthest I have ever gotten through the nine steps of the process. for any of the books I have written so far.
I am finally done with step five. I've kinda skipped ahead and done most of step seven as well. It helped me flesh out this step. Not sure why step seven is where it is. I always, always, always find myself skipping ahead to that step to record thoughts about my characters.
Step seven is where you find the character bios you've always read you were supposed to write, but were typically to lazy to. Using this character driven method, I find I'm always needing to flip ahead and start filling them out. Things popup in my brain while I'm doing the other parts that need to be saved in a summary place.
Why do I seem to never finish the snowflake? Because by the time I'm half-way through this step the story is screaming in my brain and I just want to get right to it. But each time I ignore completing this step, I find myself sort of half-assing the end of the book. I've never been satisfied with it. So this time I'm applying a little more discipline to the craft.
We'll see where that gets me!
